Thanks for dropping in. For the past few month i was not active in blogging. Thought for several days whether i should continue writing or should i quit and engage in some other task. The thoughts went on to to new ideas... writing technical stuff... my view and toughts... Finally ive decided to start writing on a new permanent domain. Barbie celebrates Half century

Its party time. The cute Barbie is celebrating her 50 years on the world market. On March 9, 1959 the inventor Ruth Handler introduced her on the American Internatioal Toy Fair. At that time the toy was named as 'Barbara Millicent Roberts'. The true inspiration for making such a doll is Handler's daughter 'Barbara'.

Over the years cute Barbie has undergone many changes including design, look, market share. She has became the first choice among kids toy. It has been told that, if the no:of barbie dolls sold are kept in a line it will be equal to the distance of rounding the earth 5 times. Inspite all the market downturn that we have seen over the past, the cute barbie still rules the market. Lets wish her another 50 more years :)

Google Earth 5.0 Beta

The Google Earth 5.0 beta, the new version of google earth has been launched . The tool with which a person can fly around the whole world free of cost. The new version has got more features compared to the old one.

The new features provided are as follows.

1. Historical imagery - With this a person can actually travel back in time & see how a place has changed ovetime.

2. Explore the ocean - This feature allows to dive into the ocean and explore the ocean layers. It also provide National Geographic video's and other interesting contents.

3. Record your tour - The record feature allows you to record your tour and save for future.

Today, let me to share something related to internet security. Some important things to be kept in mind while we do an online transaction or purchase. There are lot of sites that provide purchase facility by use of credit card. Similarly almost all banks are providing internet banking free of cost through which you can make transactions.

while you are doing any kind of transactions please look for the following things:

1. First of all make sure that you are on the right website. coz there are lot's of fraud website that look's like the original site. So if you are in a fraud site, they could easily get your personal details/account details and misuse it.

2. While carrying out a transaction look for 'https://' . HTTPS stands for hyper text transfer protocol secure. When a user connects to a secure website the session will get encrypted. This allows secure e-commerce transactions such as online banking.

A user can simply identify whether they are on a secure website if the website url starts with https:// instead of http:// . If you would like to know more about secure socket layer's refer sites like Wikipedia.

3. Finally look for a padlock sign at the rigth bottom of your browser. Browser 's like Internet explorer, Firefox shows this icon to confirm that the website/session is secure.

Slumdog Millionaire in Oscar

The "Slumdog Millionaire", the film which describes the story of an eighteen-year-old young boy from the slums of Mumbai who finds himself competing on the game - 'Be a Millionaire', where the questions he must answer offer a look back at his earlier life. The story proceeds in such a manner, along with the music of music maestro A.R Rahman conquered the minds of millions of people around the world. This opened the gateway to OSCAR and it bagged eight awards out of ten nominated categories.

Google Power Meter

Google has announced its new tool - 'The Google Power Meter'. A web service which will make an impact on the electrical energy consumption. This tool lets consumers gain a detailed information about the electrical energy they consume.

Google's Power Meter tool would tell consumers exactly how much electrical enery they are using -- down to the appliances themselves. This means that they could find out how much electrical enery is used by each appliance , how much enery is wasted, at what time more power is used an all. Just think if a consumer knows about their detailed consumption level, they could take steps to reduce their consumption level. If half of the consumers do so then we could save a lot of enery that could be used for other purposes.

Verismo ‘08, is a National level technical symposium organized by the Department of Computer Applications, Lourdes Matha College of Science & Technology, Trivandrum. The symposium was an attempt to key out the professional talents in colleges. Our aspiration is to light upon the inner lamp of talents in the Post Graduate students of Computer Applications / Science / Engineering / Technology.

Verismo was conducted on 16th January, 2008 at Vyloppilly Samskrithy Bhavan, Nanthencode, Trivandrum.

Our Main Attraction

Guess what our main attraction was… placement!!! en’Kript (Coding competition) was conducted by NeST. Out of the contestants NeST has chosen the most optimal and best coders and considered them for placement. Chosen candidates got direct entry to HR and / or Technical Interview and on success through to NeST.

The symposium hoisted the following events:
